I would pick the Asus, but there really isn't much of a difference. Both great overclockers for standard users, and they both have the same features under different names. For me I have just run with ROG for so long I have come to love them. My wife however loves dragons so there you go.

The Z87 Hero was the number one selling Z87 mobo and for reason, the Z97 is even better (I have both, in sig) and well worth it :)

Except that Maximus VII Hero doesn't have Sata Express, and Dual Lan..

Except that the Maximus VII Hero has an M.2 socket, so Sata Express doesn't effect its SSD throughput, if an SSD could actually use all of the band width of SATA 3 anyway. And as for dual LAN it doesn't improve performance at all, doesn't reduce pings or increase internet bandwidth, so thats usless as well.
So I say again they have the same features, but the Asus has less usless ones that cannot be utilized no matter what you set up you run with.

Have you considered the asus sabertooth mk1? but the hero is one of the most popular boards of the z97 chipsets, get that if you can, easy to use bios too

I just searched ASUS SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK2 LGA 1150, and I don't like its color scheme.
But the Ultimate COOLING thermal solution seems cool.
Probably going to get ASUS Maximus VII Hero unless Sabertooth z97 mark2 beats Maximus VII hero.

Haha. I don't think I'll need M.2 or Sata Express.
Gonna go for Maximus VII hero.
Thank you for your opinion!

I see. I won't need those features anyway.
