Replacing a Cisco Catalyst 4000 Router

My programmers need an IPv6 compatible router to replace an old Cisco Catalyst 4000 router that is current doing basic routing and has four ethernet interfaces. We are a very small business so cost is a major consideration. For this reason, I think I am going to have to pick up something used or remanufactured. My concern is that because I'm not a networking professional, I am going to get tripped up by purchasing a router without the right IOS version or miss a required feature set or other component.

I seem to keep coming back to a Cisco 2821 with has two ethernet interfaces. From what I'm reading, I think I will need Advanced IP Services (form IPv6) but I can't seem to find clear confirmation that I can get a 2-port ethernet network module to give me a total four interfaces? Of course, I am open to other suggestions also.

Thank you for your time and thoughts.

If you just need 2 fast ethernet a hwic-2fe will work. You can also use some of the NM-? switch module.

To validate software feature by platform go to the cisco site and use the feature navigator tool you can pick ios release levels and feature sets and can tell what is in each. 2800 series do not run the newest IOS levels if that matters.

If you actually have a router that is called a 4000 that is a mighty old piece of equipment. Cisco has reused that number for a fairly powerful line of layer3 switches.
