The FX-6300 will not bottleneck your computer later on when you upgrade your computer. If you plan on turning this computer in to some kind f beast of a machine you may need the extra cores.

FX-6300 will beat This I3 even in single core performance if you overclock it a bit. also, you would have 3 modules composed of 2 cores each. each cores has an integer scheduler and share a floating point scheduler with the other core in their module.

While I3 has 2 Cores with hyper thread wich means 4 cores sharing 2 integer scheduler and 2 floating point scheduler.

Result: AMD gives you more core and more performance.

But of course, if you look at something better than that like a low end I5, it's another story XD but the price gap is big also.

Not really

The i3 can hyperthread . Its able to run 4 threads through two cores . But the four threads cant actually do more work than the two because the core is only capable of a fixed amount of math .

The i3 can be better than the FX in older games that do not multithread well . Skyrim is probably the most common of those

But in newer game engines that can use all the available threads the FX is better . And its better again when you are playing online . The extra cores count

If you're on a budget, why not try the pentium g3258 and a z97 board? And if it cant do your works anymore, upgrade to unlocked i5 broadwell processors.

I would choose i3, lower tdp, HT technology and good upgrade path in the future ( if you're upgrading, always go with the cheapest and performance wise cpu - pentium g3258 - you dont want to throw the i3 after you bought an i7 for example. )

So being on a budget mean you get a 60 $ CPU with a 100 $ board instead of a better 120 $ CPU with a 50-60 $ board ? Z97 board are very expensive.

Don't even think about the i3 there. You are comparing a 2 vs 6 cores CPU.

Why I am saying this? Well literally games atm need CPUs with 4 cores to run at the highest settings.
With the AMD FX-6300, you are good to go for future gaming, while with the i3 you can't say the same thing. This CPU can be overclocked, while the i3 is locked and you can't do anything with it, so it's stuck @3,4GHz. (The FX-6300 goes up to 5GHz in some cases, but I think a boost of 1GHz would be fairly enough, so from 3,5GHz to 4,5GHz)

The FX-6300 is the best solution for budget gaming, with a combination of a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P motherboard or something similar, you are gonna run every game on high settings if you have at least a R7 260X/750Ti GPU. (Prefer the 260X here though)

I hope you can make your decision now and that I helped and explained everything you wanted to know ;)
Regards.
