To make a long story short, I will be moving to an area that offers only DSL connection. It will be 5Mb up 512k down.

I need help choosing a router that will help me get the most out of my connection. Looking for something to run my phone, laptop, and gaming systems. (probably wont be running them all at once due to the low bandwidth -.-)

I'm willing to spend up to $200, but the cheaper the better!:)

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

That DSL speed is fairly slow by today's broadband standards, and you will need to maximize the connection. Thankfully, just about any current model router will not be your bottleneck. Also, your square footage should not be a challenge to cover.

I would personally recommend a lower end AC router, and most of them are less than $100. Below are some specific suggestions.

Are you doing any file sharing or media streaming from computer to computer inside your home network?

How big is the place you are moving to?

Any router that is not a huge pile of crap will have way more performance then your dsl line, so you dont have to go high end.

I would suggest getting a sperate dsl modem and router though, not a combo modem/router device. First off the combo devices are usually not good, when one breaks you have to replace the whole box, and lastly if you buy seperate you can use the router if you ever get cable or fiber internet.

I think if I were to do any media streaming. The house is about 1500sqft.

I was wondering more specifically too, if it would be worth my money to purchase one of the new ac routers such as the Asus RT-AC68U or if i'm better off sticking with a cheaper option.

Guess what I am looking for is a specific reccomendation.
