I was going to upgrade my daughter's Pc a few months ago and get a GT620 or GT630 Graphics card (due to the 250w PSU) but never got around to it. Now Sims 4 is about to be released I think its about time.

Spec
AMD Athlon 64 4000+
Ram 2GB
250W PSU
GPU X700 Pro

I would like to upgrade to a R7 240 (£33) and am confused if it will run correctly. Looking at the System Requirements.

What do you think?

I have decided to put the GPU from my current computer a Radeon 5670 in my daughters computer and Upgrade the PSU to a Corsair CXM 430W http://goo.gl/bWeNat

I will now need to replace my GPU and am unsure what would be a good upgrade for me would be for about £60-£80?

Asus M5A78L Montherboard
Ram 4GB
2x 200Gb Hard Drives (prob will also be upgrading soon)
PSU OCZ Modxstream 500W http://goo.gl/up1jla

The R7 240 is actually a bit slower than the 5670;
The R7 250 is a bit faster than the 5670 (its on the edge of being a meaningful upgrade);
and yeah, the 260X is a pretty big jump. Unfortunately its a 115 W card and I'm not sure I'd entrust a (presumably aging) 250 W PSU to it.

I'm drawing most of these parallels from this guide:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html

Note that they recommend upgrading if the new card is at least three tiers above the old one to get enough of an improvement to justify the cost.

Many Thanks for your reply, The 250w PSU is in my daughters computer which i will be upgrading to a Corsair CXM 430W so that my 5670 will fit ok.

I was looking at the link and got myself abit confused. As you say 3 tiers to justify the cost of an upgrade.

When i was looking at the chart a 4 Tier upgrade would of been R7 250 (£60 ish) and when you look at the benchmarks for that card it did not seem to be much in it, then there seemed to be a good jump in performance to the R7 260x. (£80ish)

5670 to R7 250 is 4 Tiers
5670 to R7 250x is 5 Tiers (£60)
5670 to R7 260 is 6 Tiers
5670 to R7 260x is 7 Tiers (£80 ish)
5670 to R7 265 is 9 Tiers ( Availabliiy is very poor and seems to be about£110)
5670 to R9 270 is 10 Tiers £120+

I was worried that I would have to go upto a R9 270 to see a significant improvement in performance @£120+

As you say the R7 260x is a pretty big jump,(thats what i wanted to hear)

Thanks again for taking the time to reply
