APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Late September/October

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Wanting to play heavily modded Skyrim, Dota 2, Rome 2/Shogun 2, Theif, Dishonored, Ass Creed IV, Civ 5, and all Paradox grand strategy games and in the future Witcher 3, Civ: Beyong Earth and probably other titles I can't remember right now

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: AMD Radeon HD 6870, had it for quite a few years now, I think its time to upgrade. A Corsair RM 750w 80+ Gold.

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS:
CPU: Intel 4670k overclocked to 4.2Ghz with a Corsair H50 cooler
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-SLI
RAM: Corsair 8GB (2X4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz Red Vengeance
Case/Cooling: Corsair Carbide Series 200R ATX Case with 3 extra 120mm fans

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Ebuyer/Amazon
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: UK

PARTS PREFERENCES: Not a big fan of Saphire just based on looks. And I am interested in trying Nvidia GPUs as I have always been AMD before. Not very picky though, I just want whats best.

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe
SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe in the future

MONITOR RESOLUTION: currently 1920x1080 but going to upgrade to 1440p or possibly 4k.

I was looking at the 780Ti but its really expensive and I'm not sure if it is worth the extra money over a 290x for example.

Solution
No point in going 4K yet, GPU ATM are not able to succeed over 60 FPS at max setting. I suggest waiting for 800 series, they will be much better at handling 4K.

290x runs very hot. If you have the money go for the 780 ti, it runs cooler and supports all the nvidia things like phys x and shadow play. another option is a normal 780 if you want to save a little

I was thinking of waiting for the 800 series, apparently it will be released sometime next month? But is there any info about what kind of price/performance they will be? Is the 880 higher spec than the 780 for example?

or wait to buy something like a 780 ti after the 800 series is released. The chances are the price will drop on all 700 series cards
