Monitors won't wake. Random reboots. Another person with 770 problems?

My monitors will not wake. Sometimes they do, but most of the time I have to use the power button to turn the computer off. This seems to happen at random. Earlier today they wouldn't wake, but just now they came back on without a problem. This started yesterday morning. I had taken the card out the night before to install a new CPU heatsink, but had no problem that night after reinstalling the card.

After the monitor issue started, my computer also started to reboot at random. It first started once I hit the lock screen, as it would reboot straight back to the BIOS screen. Then on the second boot, it usually let me sign in. Everything would be fine after this, at least until the monitors would turn off. But, at some point, it started rebooting randomly. It didn't matter what I was doing, it would just happen at random. I turned it off at some point yesterday, and it would not POST. It gave me two short beeps and one long beep, which I believe is related to either the GPU or the RAM, with it much more likely being the GPU at this point. After not posting a few times, it finally booted into windows. After this, the same errors have continued.

I never had any of the stated problems before installing this GTX 770. I have been reading up on this, and many others have had this same issue or a very similar one. The problem has been anywhere from a faulty PSU to it being an issue specific to EVGA 700 series cards. Some have said bad card BIOS, but I'm not totally sure. My friend has an MSI 770 and uses it on his old HP motherboard without any problems.

Specs:

i7 990x
12GB Samsung RAM
EVGA SC GTX 770 (Brand new!)
EVGA Supernova G2 750W (Brand new! Bought with card)
Samsung 840 Pro (OS)
Seagate Barracuda
HP IPMTB-TK X58 motherboard (non UEFI BIOS. Old Asus Sabertooth crapped out.)
Windows 8.1

Any help is appreciated.

I had issues with sleep mode with my GTX 770 when I first got it too. I bought it from a friend and he didn't have issues with it. Not sure if it's the same as your problem, but when I would hit a button on the keyboard to wake the computer up out of sleep mode, all the fans CPU, GPU, PSU, and case fans would all start up and I could hear the HDD running, but the monitor wouldn't wake up, when I would turn the monitor on manually, it would say no signal. I luckily fixed it right away by updating the drivers to the Nvidia beta ones.

This sounds a lot like my problem, or at least how it started. Although, the random reboots could be another issue entirely.

I don't put the computer to sleep, but I have my monitors set to turn off after five minutes. If I manually turn the monitors on, they both say no signal.

No beta drivers at the moment, unfortunately. Latest is 340.52, which I am running.

Maybe try taking the GPU out, and reseating it back in the PCIe slot. Also make sure the BIOS is set to use the GTX 770. If that doesn't work, as long as you don't have saved profiles/OC settings in the BIOS, you can try removing the CMOS battery for 10 minutes to reset your mobo's BIOS.

Yeah, I'll give it a try. I've heard the 700 series cards have a problem with legacy BIOS, though, so I don't know if it is going to work correctly or not.

I'm thinking of just buying a new motherboard and a 4790K. These old motherboard seem to have a problem with the 700 series, plus, I am getting tired of this HP board. I love my 990x, but it's not worth the hassle of these old boards.

Thanks.

I reseated the graphics card. It was pretty loose, so much so that it wasn't even straight (sort of hanging). How that happened I have no idea, as it was nice and secure when I reseated yesterday. But it was also pretty hard to remove from the PCIe slot this time. It felt almost as if the PCIe connectors were going to break, and I was being gentle.

I also got a message telling me to connect the VGA power cables to the card. I disconnected and reconnected them and it fixed that issue, but that is the second time that has happened.
