Memory issues with new laptop

I recently bought a new laptop (MSI GT70 Dominator) and I have been having some issues. 7/8 GB of memory are almost always being used. The only program I have on is Skype and it says that I am using 7gb of ram. How can I fix this?

In task manager, click the processes tab and sort it by clicking the memory category, so the processes using the most memory are at the top. Are any of the programs using a large amount of memory? Also under the performance tab, what values are in the "physical memory" section?

It should look like this:
Physical Memory (MB)
Total xxxx
Cached xxxx
Available xxxx
Free xxxx
Sort by date Sort by votes
