Sooooooooooooo, i have a Samsung "don't know the exact model" 1080p HDMI monitor. It uses a VGA and an HDMI cable, to run, (that's always how i've done it and when i've had only the VGA in it won't work). So my new motherboard (M5A99 FX R2.0 Pro) doesn't have a female HDMI port in the back. Can i run it with only VGA for the time being? Also i'm ordering a HDMI to USB adapter, will this work as long as i get a trusted brand?

No monitor except the new 4k's that need two HDMI's need 2 inputs to work. I'm guessing the monitor doesn't auto detect the used input but was pre-set to the HDMI input. So when you plugged in VGA nothing, then HDMI and it works, you should be able to unplug the HDMI and select the analog (VGA) input, it will still work/look fine, you just lose some gamut.

Well the only issue that im having is that i had only the VGA cable in my monitor and tower, set it to analog, and nothing. Do i need to mess with the settings a little?

depending on what type of GPU it's running on, sometimes it's only checked when the machine is powered on where a display is detected (and which output to use then), so if it's been running on HDMI and you unplug that, you may need to restart the PC so it picks up that it's supposed to output to VGA now...worth a try and we'll go from there.
