My computer came with a 32bit operating system
but has 5gb of ram however im only allowed to use around 3gb of ram.

I want to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit but i don't wish to waste a chunk of money on a new disc and product key.

So im wondering if i can use my old 32bit product key for a ISO file of windows 7 ultimate

The part im confused at is if i can use the 32bit OEM key for a 64bit installation of windows 7 ultimate

Computer:Windows 7 ultimate

I cannot look on the case for a COA key since my computer was originally windows vista 64bit
sadly the hard drive stopped working

If they just put it on there, and you didn't pay $xxx extra for it...it ain't legal or valid. A license for Windows 7 Ultimate is not free or cheap.

I guess you could call MS and ask.

Drives do not come with an OS. It is quite common for a 'repair shop' to install whatever they have laying around. A retail license of Win 7 Ultimate costs ~$175. I'm assuming you didn't give them $175 extra, right?

You almost certainly need to buy your own valid license of whatever OS you want.

If you can find a valid ISO of Vista 64, probably.
You might try this:

But you should really move off Vista. Yes, a new license for Windows, either 7 or 8, actually costs money (oh noes!). But either will be far, far better than Vista.

The problem is that your existing Win 7 Ultimate key is likely not a valid key.
