My computer is shutting down while it is idle, usually in the middle of the night. I am not sure why it is doing this.

Specs:
CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: ASRock 990fx Extreme3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Memory: Corsair XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory
Memory: Corsair XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: XFX Radeon HD 5830 1GB Video Card
Power Supply: Corsair CX 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive: LG GH22NS50 Bulk DVD/CD Writer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)

I ran Memtest 86+, which said it passed five times. the processor and motherboard are only 8 months old, and the power supply is a week old. My temps are at 40-42 degrees Celsius, so i don't see that being an issue.

The weird thing is after I got the new power supply it did not shut off unexpectedly for four days, but is now doing it daily. Any suggestions?

Solution
mmm - - my instinct (and logic) tells me it's the PSU, based on your last sentence. Corsair are a well respected manufacturer of PSUs as I'm sure you already know (many models are actually made by Seasonic), but even the best manufacturer has a percentage of faulty ones that manage to get through.

I would certainly look in to that possibility before looking elsewhere for the cause.

Thank you, I'll take it back to Best Buy soon, and try another one. I also got this blue screen last night, not sure if it helps. I am assuming that I have gotten this blue screen before, but my windows 7 settings were set to restart on system failure.

So I tried to take my computer to Best Buy so they can test the power supply again, and of course their tester is broken now. I am also have more issues of where the computer screen will lock up, and windows explorer will stop responding, leaving me looking at my wallpaper and nothing else. Could this issue be pointing to anything else? Maybe a bad hard drive?
