Hey ppl!

I'm having a weird one here. Everytime I'm playing Crysis 2, the cable coming out of my PSU starts to heat up (the one that plugs to the wall socket). After about 30-40 minutes I have to stop playing beacuse it gets quite hot and it worries me. The PC itself is ok, the GPU runs at about 95% at 77-80 ÂșC but nothing out the ordinary when playing this high demanding games. No clue why the cable heats up.

Any ideas?? :p

The wires in the PSU cable are undersized for current the PSU is pulling. The manufacturer of your PSU probably skimped on the PSU cable or you reused one that didn't come with the PSU. These typically have 18 to 14 gauge wires in them. You may think about picking up a new 14 gauge wire one.

The cable heats up because your computer drawings a lot of current when under load. GPUs especially are power hogs. Get a better cable with thicker gauge wires in it if you think its a fire hazard.

Thanks for your answers! My PSU isn't modular, is it still possible to change the cable? My PSU is a Sentey Rockpower 750w.

Yes. Just look on the back of the PC where the power cable connects to the PSU. Power down the PC and unplug it from the PC just like you would from the wall. You can check this now. The cords are all NEMA compliant ie same connector.

Out of curiosity, what PSU you have? I have never seen a power cable overheat.

Sorry, now I see you have a Sentey PSU. They are ususally good. One thing.. If you are using the two pin connector to the wall socket, try using a 3 pin one. may be there is some short in the power cable.

That Sentey isn't a very good power supply.
