Does it matter which router we use as an access point?

So right now I have a main router downstairs and since the signal is weak upstairs, I am using a second router only setup as an access point and we now have full signal upstairs and around the house.

My question is though, does it matter which router we use? Like will I get any benefits from using a higher end router for an access point?

Right now I am using this as an access point upstairs : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124502

I also have this router but it's still in the box : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124531

If I use that WRT1900 as an access point will there be any benefits?

I already have max signal now with that AC1600 so I am guessing there won't be any benefits since my only use for them is for access points.

But I just want to make sure, if anyone can chime in, thanks!!

This is in the category of if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The router you are currently using as an access point, the Linksys EA6400, is a current model, and quite good- hence why you are getting the full signal currently. Going to something even higher end is not going to net you any performance benefits, and I would put the money spent towards something else.

Ok thanks, that answers my question, I had a cheaper router before and I had full signal but it kept dropping and I would have to reset it everytime.

Thanks!
