How could this be? Is steam somehow messing with the game's performance? I don't understand why it's happening. And it's quite ironic after spending 60 on the game.

More about : bought metro redux pirated version minutes steam version giving fps lag

You should read the stickies brother. Not supposed to help those who pirate and I'm sure more than a few who post here work in the programing business. I would DELETE your pirate copy entirely along with the steam version. Then re-install the PAID steam version. Also if you do not have a gpu that supports v-sync....turn it off.

I don't pirate games. I have bought the game and I can show you proof if you don't believe me. The issues/puzzle is that the pirated copy did not stutter. And of course I deleted it before I installed the steam version.

Are the graphics settings all the same?
You might have AA turned up too high or something.

Yeah they are the same. I was getting buttery 60+fps at x2 ssao

Now the game is slow at those settings. (everything else was maxed) and when I turn off the AA it still stutters. The audio stutters as well.

I know I say this al the time but. it is because some of my games do this too. Play it in window mode. Even if you max it out to your screen size I swear my games run better than full screen.

In steam you can select the game and right click on it, then properties, then launch options. In that window type " -windowed ". See if that helps.

There was a day one patch or something that added volumetric lighting and some enhancements. Your pirated version obviously wasn't patched

I guess it was the patch that did it. Any way to roll it back while we wait for the next patch?

I don't think un-patching is possible. Maybe reinstall the game with updates off. Never tried that myself

I don't think that will work. I bought the game today and it seems they included the patch in the main install package.

Once a patch is out on steam, you're bound to install it, period. Digitally obtained copies or retail copies not installed by disk (that happens when you redeem the code, associate it with your account and download the game, instead of using the disk to install it) will download the entire game prepatched, while retail copies will only install a part of the game usually, and download the rest later.

If there's no option in-game to try disable the said enhancements, at least to see if they're the actual cause, your best bet would be to look into configuration files and see if there are any manual options.

In steam you can select the game and right click on it, then properties, then launch options. A window pops up and you can enter commands manually. As to what commands you need I do not know but, google is your friend.

Here is a list of some.
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=104...

"" -autoconfig " - Restores video and performance settings to default for the current hardware detected. Ignores settings inside any .cfg files until this parameter is removed."

I would try this one since others think it has something to do with a lighting update. This should remove it and set the game to run for your specs ignoring any changes the cnfigs try to make.

Was your pirated version the redux? If it wasn't and you are using the same settings on the now paid for redux version, then that would be your problem. The redux graphics are more demanding.
But as said before, be sure that v-sync is turned off both in game and in your graphics card's control panel. Even if you are dipping down to just 59fps, vsync will drop you down to 30fps
