Windows can't install drivers for wireless adapter

So here's the story:
I built a new computer and I was going to use my old hard drive from the other computer. So I backed up all my data, did a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, and booted the computer up. Everything went fine, until I tried to connect to the internet. I plugged in my Belkin N600 wireless dual-band adapter, and I got a message saying that the drivers were unable to be downloaded. I haven't been able to find the cd that came with it so that's not an option right now. I tried connecting an ethernet cable to my range extender and still nothing. (the cable was in my garage so it could've been bad) Then I went onto another computer, downloaded the driver onto a flash drive, plugged the flash drive into my computer, ran it, and still nothing. I unistalled/installed the driver with this method about 4 or 5 times and nothing happened. I contacted Microsoft and received no help, and the same thing happened with Belkin. The adapter was working just fine earlier today when I was on my old computer, before I put the new one together.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening?

Thanks for the taking the time to help.

Did you install the motherboard's Win7-64 drivers? If you can plug your ethernet cable into your ISP's modem and connect to the internet, then yes, you've installed the drivers for your motherboard's ethernet port.

If I then shut off everything, re-cable my router to that ISP modem, then cable the router into my PC, I should have an internet connection. If not, then something's going on with my router or I've got Win7 set up wrong.

But prove that you've got motherboard drivers installed correctly.

I would install the Chipset (Motherboard) motherboard drivers, then the Video Drivers, Audio Drivers then the LAN Drivers. Depending on the motherboard, there may be other drivers to install as well.

Your motherboard may have HDMI drivers in there, as well. Some of these will need to do Shutdown Restarts, others won't require it, but I often do as a matter of course.
