cant see the option to open my external hard disk..but after removing hard disk it says to format it b4 use.. i dont wanna loo

it doesnt show the icon whn i plug in the hard disk, n it says to format it whn i plug it out..i dont want to loose the data
 
Solution
Not a good sign. I suggest if you have can download an iso copy of xfce, http://xubuntu.org, and burn it to a dvd. The operative word there is burn not copy the download. There are many iso burners out there for free. XFCE is a version of Linux Ubuntu that if you used XP you'll find very comfortable and Linux often sees drives and files that Windows doesn't. After burning the DVD restart the computer from the DVD, I'd need to know your computer model to detail how but look under boot order in help. Once running look and see if the drive shows up and you can transfer the files to another drive.

Don't let the word Linux scare you away, if you have an Android phone, that is Linux and most (all?) repair disks out there are actually...
