The mother board is matx and the dimensions are 9.6" x 7.8"

The case is matx and it says it supports 9.6” x 9.6”

Will this work together??

Yes smaller is no problem! 9.6" x 9.6" is the max size of mATX board and many are narrower.

Well, without the model of case and motherboard it isn't possible to say 100%.

However, it should work fine. ATX cases (and mATX cases) usually come with multiple sets of mounting points for different depth motherboards.

If you give the brand and model of both the case and motherboard this can be verified.

mATX in full size have three sets of mounting holes narrower boards do skip the last row but the other ones are in the exact same place as on a full size mATX board. So if the case is mATX it will accept any board that is advertised as mATX regardless of the width since the mountings is a big part of the std!
