I just received my Seagate Backup Plus 5TB hard drive. I formatted it to HFS+ (I'm using Mac), and started copying my previous 3TB hard drive to it. After copying around 2.5TB, it stopped responding.

I tried the following things:
-Unplug, restart Mac (waited for some time)
-Disk Utility (doesn't show up) "However, shows up in System Report in USB section"
-Terminal Command lines to show disks (doesn't show up)
-DiskWarrior (doesn't show up)
-Tried different USB 3.0 & Power Cables
-Plugged it in a Windows machine, does not show up.
-In Windows tried the Computer Management, Disk section. Shows up as offline disk, can't do anything to it

Do you think there's anything that I can do to bring it back to life? Or should I return it?

If I have to return it, I obviously will not go again with Seagate, but WD.

Is there anything I can do to remove the data that was copied to it? Since it might be a casing problem, I don't want the manufacturer to get my data.

You may try to use DBAN to wipe out the data from your hard drive.
