Hey, everyone. Just like the title says I am currently looking Into upgrading my GPU. Right now I am running an HD Radeon 7870 but I'm looking to put something with a little more power in my system. I run my rig off of a 750W psu and I'm looking to spend around 300 bucks on a card. Any suggestions for solid cards? Thanks a bunch.

Why would you want a better card? It's basically an R9 270,which is a pretty powerful GPU.

For 300$ you will only get an R9 280x, or GTX 770.
Unless you can up the budget a bit to get an R9 290, I wouldn`t upgrade at this point.

If you live in the states and would be willing to pony up a few extra dollars then an r9 290 would be a fantastic upgrade

You'll likely find open box prices close to $300(I've had mostly good success with open box purchases)

He doesn't need a better GPU. The 7870 is a decent GPU and can handle latest games at medium-high,or even ultra.

Thanks for all of your input, everyone. The reason I was looking to upgrade my card is because I livestream gameplay to Twitch.tv and whenever I play an MMO and am in an area with a large player density I lose a lot of frames.

Maybe is my CPU that's causing me to bottleneck instead? I'm running an FX-8320

The FX-8320 is a strong CPU and will be fine with a GTX 780. :)

So I guess the question is should I go for the cheaper R9 290 or the more expensive GTX 780? What do you guys think?

Well, the order of performance is mainly this: R9 290 -> GTX 780 -> R9 290x -> GTX 780TI
But TBH, I`m not sure if the price difference is worth it. What`s the price for the 290 and 780 for you?

MMO's usually run on 1-2 cores, so if you run it stock then yes.

Depends on the game.
On some games it can't feed a 7970 properly.

Also a 7870 isn't enough at 1080p or better.

Well from what I've seen I can get an R9 290 for about 400 bucks, a GTX 780 for about 500 bucks, or an R9 290x for 530-550 bucks. I'm thinking that I might just go with the R9 290.

^ yes, if you can't afford a 780 you might as well go for 290, make sure you get aftermarket versions
