Hi,
I have recently been having a pretty annoying problem with my computer in regards to playing video games. Whenever I load any of these games they freeze the second a 3D menu or graphic is used. However, I can then tab out and close the program through task manager which says that the programs are 'not responding'.

This can be quite infuriating because as far as I can see everything else on my computer is fine. So far I have formatted both of my Hard Drives and even taken it into a local computer store to do Hardware tests which apparently it passed flawlessly.

Examples of Games that i have tested this on are 'Xcom:Enemy Within','Fifa 14','Half Life 2' and 'Borderlands 2' however 2D games such as 'FTL' or 'Papers Please' still work fine.

I will be willing to give any computer spec if needed,
Thankyou.

I think it's your CPU thats making you lag.

Is this a problem with all games or only a handful? If it is all games, it is not that you have a slow CPU. The CPU may have issues with some games, but it won't with all games.

The most obvious thing is to install the latest drivers on AMD website. You may also need to test out different settings, but even poor settings shouldn't cause "no response" to show up on the task manager.

Anyways, start with drivers, then look to 3rd party software running in the background. Uninstall everything not needed and test.

I have updated all the drivers before and this has not improved anything. As I say all 'smaller 2D games' work fine like they always have but its just recently that all the 3D games have started freezing up the second they are launched into a 3D menu. Also my computer has been working fine up to this point so if it is the CPU it must have become faulty. Any ideas (apart from the standard replace and hope for the best) on how to diagnose if it was the CPU and would the laggy CPU cause the games to stop responding the second they launch into a 3D screen? I have also recently formatted both my hard drives so apart from Steam and the windows ones there is no stand out 3rd party software that could be uninstalled.
Thankyou for your time.
