I feel kind of embarrassed asking this. I just recently built a pc, I haven't played pc games since crysis 1 was released. How do you make friends on p?. I switched back because well computers are me and its what I know and love. I used to play on my xbox but it felt like it was the same thing over and over again. I have been playing for about a month and just wanted to make some new friends Games I have bought or gotten free include the following:

bioshock 1,2 and Infinite, Battlefiend 3&4, hitman absolution, tomb raider, dirt 3, borderlands, thief, sniper elite

you make friends outside.when you know who they are then you ask them that you play this game do you have it?
then you ask then to play together in a multiplayer mode and you add them as friends.
you can not go asking people to be your friends online.you might get bullied (well thats what the news say).
and it can have a impact phycologicaly.
you wont be leaving the house to join with some friends over the weekend and so on.

^ This is false on many levels, you can make friends easily in any game. You just need to find the right people in the right place. (games in this case)

Steam is a really good online gaming community. Aside from playing games online via steam with others there are TONS of different steam community groups you can join. Are you interested in playing MMORPG's? As far as making friends in-game there's no better way than playing games with tons of people all on the same realm/server simultaneously, especially if you join guilds/clans..... world of warcraft, guildwars 2, tera, etc. Gaming forums are also good (1up, IGN, etc...)

This is a ridiculous post... what if OP is handicapped, lives in a remote area where there aren't many people, or possibly a disabled veteran? Either way you're not helping anyone....

1) If your buying games off STEAM or just any NameOFGame has forums, usually when you read through (like here at TH) you will 'make a name' for yourself and you make friends that way with the postings (Hey I saw what you said about the sniping from Hill21, you want to practice on my Clan Server?).
2) Make a name for playing well in the game. If your that good, your senior players will pick up on that and want to chat you up. Normally I am WAY too busy trying not o be Bambi in games to keep up with those 'msgs' being typed in scroll.
3) Sadly while VOICE was supposed to solve (as I said in #2, type type type HEADSHOT dammit!) it has become more a annoyance (SCREEEEEEAMMMINGGGG or worse HACKFEEDBACKNOISEEEEE) than a solution. It used to be you could be talking on the headset (in game voice or one of the voice services out there) and could really get into 'knowing people', especially in rivalries, turn into friendship (Yeah Ghost keep hiding.. I will keep sniping... come on stick that nice head out.. dare ya!).
4) Or the BEST way, is talk to your RL friends, see what they play, and you can get your 'game on' with them. It is more fun (IMHO) when you can sit around some othertime (as this commercial illustrates http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3AmD9bB1cw ) about how you were knifing everyone from behind, or tossing a C4 and so on.

I agree with you. I am at my mid 30 and most of my friends/family do not care about video games. But I do love computer hardware and games. So I buy a game, I play sometime and I get to know some people and enjoy the experience with them. The key here is to remember is not to care about bullies or what the foul mouthed teenagers are saying. We, the older people in the world of games are past our quake 3 and CS days.

Yea I'm 27 and sometimes I think "Should I still be playing video games?", mostly because of how previous generations (aunts/uncles/parents/etc) perceive it. With our generation growing up in the internet age and video games coming such a long way from atari and arcade games, most people over 40 just don't understand how fun of a hobby it is. When they think of video games they're thinking about someone sitting alone in a room playing pacman, rather than the massive, awesome, enigma that gaming has become recently. The video games they're used to had no capacity for meeting/interacting with tons of people online, making money via gaming (competing, streaming, etc), keeping your mind sharp (puzzle solving, mathematics, reaction time, etc), and much more. Not to mention computer skills and/or basic computing knowledge is pretty much a necessity in the workplace nowadays, so PC gaming even on a recreational level can be beneficial

Ya, I guess the real problem is my real friends, litereally none of them play on pc its all xbox one or ps4. One of them wants to but doesn't have the money for start up costs. I play minecraft with my older brother, but between work and the family, it rarely happens. I like all sorts of games, I am not really to picky. I mean lately I just hop on a server and play. I am still building my library of games, I have around 20 games
