I am having a probIem with a computer of mine. I haven't used it in awhile and I am trying to install a new video card in to it. The R5 video card that is in it now won't show up in the device manager, when I go look at the driver it lists it as "VGASAVE". Trying to install the newest AMD driver results in the installer stopping and saying that it cannot find the hardware.

I installed a Geforce GT 610 PCI-E, that has the same result. Won't show in the Device Manager and trying to install the newest Geforce driver also says it cannot find the hardware. But the video card(s) is/are working on the screen while using either of the cards. The board is from an Dell XPS which has on board VGA and HDMI. I have tried to change the on board video options in the BIOS both Auto and disabled. Switching to either of the BIOS options on both cards does not work.

What would be the solution to this problem? The only thing I can think of is to try to repair the windows installation or reinstall windows 7.

To sum it up: Computer won't recognize 2 different brands of video cards. They do not show up under Display Adapter in Device Manager. Trying to install either of the drivers does not work, says cannot find hardware. The auto installer from both manufactures websites do not work. The driver is listed as "VGASAVE".

How do I get the computer to recognize the video card and show up in the device manager again?

I'm using the computer with both the AMD and Geforce PCI-E cards. They both work, the slot works, the cards just won't show up in the Device Manager. The built in graphics do work and when I do use the built in VGA, it shows up in the Device Manager.

I am swtiching between the 2 cards, I don't have both of them in the computer at the same time. The motherboard only has one PCI-E slot.

It seems like as if the operating system (win 7) has some sort of software conflict going on. Does anyone know a way to complete wipe out all drivers without harming the OS?
