Hello everyone. I apologize if this is in the wrong place, but I am not sure where to post it. Took me almost 8 hours to complete(ugh), but I was able to put together my first build(yay) with the only clear issue being that the dvd drive would not open.
Everything seemed to be going smoothly until I installed the drivers. After installing drivers my HDD light comes on quite frequently, and I hear a lot of whirring sounds from within. I fear that I may have not installed the drivers in the right order and that it is causing the HDD to work incorrectly.
Could it be something else? I've done some research, but it is hard for me to process this kind of information, and I've now become both frustrated and afraid. Everything seems to be working fine, except for maybe running a little slow which doesn't match what I've read in my research.
If anyone could help shed some light on my problem I would truly appreciate it. I'd like to thank anyone that replies in advance, and I hope you all have a great day. I'll check back when I get the chance.
In case this helps:
Motherboard : ASRock H97M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1150
CPU: i5-4460
Storage : WD 2TB Black 7200RPM
GPU: Asus Radeon R9280
If there is any other information I can provide that could help in determining the issue please let me know and I will post it as soon as possible. Thanks again.

Installing drivers in a different order shouldn't cause this sort of issue. Your specs are pretty nice, though it could help us direct you if you tell us which version of Windows you installed. Also the amount of RAM. I'm assuming it's at least 4 GB so you should have the 64 bit version of whichever Windows you chose (7, 8.1 or other).
On to the troubleshooting: is there a disk in the DVD drive now? You mention that drive isn't opening, but does it sound like the drive is still trying to read the disk? Have you rebooted the system? A clean boot can clear up many temporary issues. If the system still appears slow after a reboot (and the disk won't eject) take a look at the task manager. Right-click an empty space on the taskbar and select "task manager" then go to the Performance tab (if Windows 8.x, click "More Details" at the bottom of the initial summary window to get to the full Task Manager then view the Performance tab). After a clean boot and with no other programs running the CPU usage should be close to zero. If there is significant CPU usage, move to the "Processes" tab to see what is using that CPU time. Post the results here.

Hello SchizTech and thank you for taking the time to reply. As far as the dvd drive, I got that to open after unplugging and plugging both power and data connections. I installed Windows 8.1 64bit, and I have two 4GB sticks of G.skill Ripjaw DDR3-1600 RAM. I went into "task manager" and cpu is mostly zero. It jumps to 1-2% but very briefly. Not sure how long I should stare at it for, but if there is a time frame in which I should keep my eye on it just let me know please. I did notice that my HDD use fluctuates. It jumped from 0-20-44 and up to 99% use. Maybe because I had just booted? I've gone back since starting this reply to reboot and check the processes that could be effecting disk use. Different ones took top position too quickly for me to write them all down, but I noticed "Service Host Local System(Network Restricted)" on top of the list at some point, as well as "Intel Local Management Service" The latter I also noticed seems to be 32 bit. Could that be causing my problems? I want to reboot again and try to screenshot so I can see what is up there on the list, but I'm afraid to reboot too often not knowing the problem.

Well high HDD use is certainly an unusual event which would definitely lead to a slow system. That could be caused by any number of things; some suggestions are in these threads:
