A few months back I re-did my thermal paste on my Fx4100, it wasn't the best job as it was my first ever attempt, the temps at first were very low, but as the months have gone on it seems to be idling hotter. Core temp says that im getting anywhere from 16 to 33 degree centigrade, but when I open up ASUS AI Fan Xpert it says Im getting about 40 degrees idle. I dont know what to believe.
Heres a screen shot of the two apps http://gyazo.com/990c7515e12dd3bdcf71d12ee4c9e270

Im OCing from 3.6 to 4.0 (or 3.9 I cant remember exactly)

More about : messed thermal paste

well 16C is very cool. so cool that i do not think it is possible. is that how cold it is in your house. so i would believe that 40C seems allot more plausible.

now if your temps have slowly gone up over time I would expect that there is a buildup of dust over the heatsink. I would clean out your case fans and fins and I would bet that your temps would go back to normal.

Thanks, I did a clean a month or so ago, I didnt have any compressed air so I did the best I could to get all the dust off with a dust cloth, I just checked with my BIOS and its reporting the same as ASUS AI (for obvious reasons), staying around 40.

I really hate to think how high it goes up to when gaming on BF4, I know it really shouldn't go above 60/65 degrees.

Do you think reaplying the paste will help?

EDIT: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/265302-29-bios-temp... this thread explained that the BIOS (and therefore ASUS AI) cant clock down to a lower speed, it is reading this before it boots WINDOWS and windows is what clocks down to an idle speed of 1.6 ghz or so, this is why Core Temp is aparently more accurate (dunno how true that is but hey)
Ive also gotten all three monitoring software I have and they all report the FX4100 to be in it's 20c's and the MoBo's CPU temp to be in its 40s. http://gyazo.com/6df2300b11b1c48ca54c002e51c0f993 so Im really not sure tbh

so this is my favorite program to keep track of what is going on while I am gaming or running benchmarks

http://www.hwinfo.com/download.php

if you click on any of the categories it will open a graph so that you can see what your temps are while gaming

If you are using afterburner software for overclocking your GPU that will also use a graph and tell you temps over time as long as you have riva tuner installed also
