narrowed my gpu choices down to a couple of options, please help me!

Intel Core i5 4690K
8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600
Crucial M500 120GB SSD
Seagate Barracuda 7200 1TB SATA
Gigabyte GA-Z97P-D3 Socket 1150 ATX
XFX PRO650W Core Edition PSU
Corsair Carbide SPEC-03

and the gpu is between
XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB
ASUS GeForce 760 Platinum 4GB
EVGA GeForce GTX 770 Superclocked 2GB
ASUS R9280X-DC2T-3GD5 3GB

am i better with the 760 with extra RAM or the s/c 770? or is the 280X a better performer?
will there be much/any difference in any of these? they're within about €20 of each other. thanks!

Solution
I'd go XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB. XFX is a good choice for that particular model. I'd think the 3GB it offers would be more futureproof, especially if you upgrade your monitor to a higher res. There's also a 4GB model of the 770 available, but unless it's about the same price as the 280X, I'd stick to the 280X. Otherwise, it comes down to specific games, and NVIDIA vs AMD in general.

AMD has Mantel going for it, which most engines used in new games seam to be supporting. It could lead to bigger performance gains in the future, but who knows where the market will go. Microsoft is re-working Direct-X from the ground up, so it might be moot in a few years. AMD also has a nice built in streaming service and RAPTR.

NVIDIA has...

If you can get a 770 at a good price then, its a solid performer.
The 280x is also a great choice and always seem to be on sale.

Just check the games you want to play if they're more inclined to the card you pick..

Also gpu memory is for better muti monitor performance.. But the 760 is weaker.

NVIDIA has GSYNC, Shadow Play, Streaming to a NVIDIA Shield, if you ever think you'll purchase one.

the palit 770 4gb is about €70 extra, would that be worth it realistically? never going to be using dual monitors and very rarely gonna be playing online. only really for solo gaming on a 42" hdtv

Nah, the 4GB 770 GTX not really worth it for you. The speed of the GTX 770 would probably limit things before the 2GB of RAM would. The only exception would be if you're planning to add a 2nd 770 down the road for a SLI with 4GB of VRAM.

(VRAM doesn't stack in SLI, so 2 2GB cards result in only 2GB of usable VRAM.)
