First of all, I am not an hardware expert.

So, today I bought a heatsink for no reason (I know). So I got home, connected the 4-pin molex to my PSU and I had no idea where to put the 3-pin fan connector thing. I found somewhere on the internet that you can plug it in the 4-pin thing in the motherboard. I did not see how it looks, so I plugged it in something that looks like this but has two rows. I plugged my PSU, and it started spinning. Next, I unplugged the PSU and screwed the heatsink to the case, started my PC, and it worked...for two seconds before stopping. I also smelled smoke, so yeah. Then I tried powering it back on but nothing and unplugged the PSU, I did not try to start it again. What part did fry? Thanks

on the cpu fan that you have the 4 pin was for the pmw cpu fan headers if your motherboard had it. the other connector is for the older 3 pin cpu fan headers both will have had a lable saying cpu fan or case fan. i would try clearing the cmos of the mb see if that gets your rig to post if not you fried the mb.

Could it be the PSU that is fried? The motherboard's capacitors look fine, and I have another PSU to replace this one
