Hi, upgrading my old processor to an AMD FX6300, the processor is compatible with all the other components in the system. Also there is more than enough power from the PSU to give the extra 10-20W or so of power.

is it straight forward, take out old one, clean and reapple thermal paste and then slot in the new CPU and everything will run as normal?

or will i encounter problems? i've never upgraded the CPU of anything but i know how to from building pc's.

thanks.

Should be ok.
If anything happens with the OS you may have to reinstall the operating system.
Just make sure when you go to reinstall that you use a separate drive, otherwise you will format all of your files from the previous OS.

two things to check before you pull the working cpu. look at the motherboard guild online for tested cpu for your mb. make sure the cpu you have will work in the mb. then make sure your motherboard has the newest bios file on in. the bios file has the cpu and ram code in it if your biso code is to old the mb wont post with the new cpu and you have to put the old one back in and flash the bios. so it saves you time to update the bios from inside the mb cmos screen to the newest bios if needed.
