Hi Everyone,

I installed Windows 8 on my newly built PC around 2-3 months ago and it was working just fine, but up until a few weeks ago nothing has been working. Every time I start up my PC I will encounter a Blue Screen of Death error and my PC will shut its self down. From what I've seen of others who encounter the BSOD, a message appears telling them an error code (or something along those lines) and also says that their system will restart. Mine also says that the system will restart, however it never does, and so I am stuck without my computer.

The time it takes for the BSOD to appear varies every time. Sometimes it happens before I can even log in to my user account, and other times it lets me start using my computer normally for about 5 minutes before the inevitable happens.

I have tried locating the problem whenever I am gifted a few minutes of a functioning computer, and it seems as though there is a problem with my GA-Z87-HD3 motherboard (naturally), and that I should maybe try rolling back windows with a system restore. Of course when I try to perform the system restore the BSOD interrupts and shuts down my PC before anything can happen, but I did find out that there seemed to be a very important update that took place as the most recent roll-back point, and I believe therein lies my problem, but I don't really know what I can do about it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

microsoft did push a bad update. to fix it you might have to boot from windows installer disk then run the system restore. to rule out hardware if you have two dimms try one at a time to see if one of the dimms has a bad spot. look inside the pc make sure the cpu and gpu fans are moving fine. if they are and your bsod still pull the gpu and run on the onboard video to rule out a power or gpu issues.

you would have to post the bugcheck code displayed on the screen or the actual memory .dmp file saved to your hard drive to figure out the problem. if it was the "bad update" problem you need to boot on a windows disk
and delete c:\windows\system32\fntcache.dat file and reboot to get your system to boot.
it is a corrupted font cache, the system will rebuild the file. The microsoft update assumed the file was corrupted because of a virus and bugchecks the system. The problem occurs the first time you reboot after the update. (sleep mode does not count as rebooting)
