Hello chaps,

I am in the market for a new GPU but I am getting all confused what gpu to get and if my mobo will take it.

My Specs are I5 750 2.66 4GB, XFX core 550w psu, 240 ssd and 1th Hdd.

My current GPU is a ati 5770 and mobo is a gigabyte GA P55 US3l rev 2.0.

I was looking at the r 9 270 but someone mention there may be compatibility issue so I contacted GB who said this:

Dear Customer,

"This board doesn’t support new generation R9-270 VGA card, due to BIOS limitation (Not enough BIOS resource).

Sorry but we don't have a recommended list for your reference."

Now is this because my mobo takes PCI e 2.0 and newer GPU are 3.0?

I have checked the bios update at gigabyte but the last update got my mobo was in 2010.

I don't want to splash out £100 plus and is does not work.

Thanks in advance

Solution
the motherboard does not support Intel ON BOARD graphics but WILL support the 270............ don't know who sent you THAT information........

from gigabyte site................ "* This model uses an Intel H55 Chipset, however it DOES NOT support integrated graphics from the Intel Core i5/i3 processor and requires a VGA card for graphics output."

and:

" 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16) (The PCIEX16 slot conforms to PCI Express 2.0 standard.)
1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)
1 x PCI Express x1 slot
4 x PCI slots "

I have yet to find a graphics card that will not work on boards that "OLD"........... there are some instances where there are limitations. don't think yours fits in that...

you'll have to read reviews from etail sites to see what people are running on it.

Solution

I don't know. if that's the case there is no argument, the person is ill informed. there's much more performance between ssd's on different pci-e slots than on graphics cards.

etail............. sites on line that sell gpu's and other pc hardware......... there should be reviews on the products from people who have used/purchased the product...... in your case the motherboard......... some will give the experience they have/had and others will tell you what other hardware they installed on the board.
