My newly built PC has decided to stop working within a fortnight of it being built. After having trouble shutting down it finally made a noise as if it'd crashed (the noise a PC makes when you hold down the off button). Now the PC won't switch on at all and makes no attempt to. The fans don't move at all. There are two lights on in the machine. One is on the on switch on the Motherboard and the other is next to the power port on the graphics card.

I am running:

Gigabyte Z97X- Gaming 7 Motherboard
Intel Core i7 Processor - i7-4790k
SuperFlower Golden Green HX 750W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black
Kingston HyperX 16GB RAM
Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB SATA HDD
Asus Xonar DG 5.1 PCI Sound Card
Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5 Graphics Card

As far as I'm aware, none of these are incompatible with one another.

Does anyone have any ideas what to check? I'd be very grateful to get some fresh opinions on the matter.

strip down the board to bare essentials, just cpu, mobo and RAM to see if it will turn on.

What CPU cooler do you have? Hyper 212 +/EVO?

@woltej1 - I will try that at the weekend. Thanks

@TheConsiderateIlliterate - It is just the bog-standard one that came with the CPU. I didn't invest in anything new there
