Hi all,
First of all congrats on a fantastic site, i now only click any google links that have tomshardware in them, you guys have become my only source for information.
Here is my situation. I am not a new builder i have built many systems over the years but have to admit it has been 4 years since i last looked at systems or components so some rust has set in.
I was sourcing a new gaming build for myself (i will ask about that in another post maybe), then i get tasked with sorting a budget build for my partners son. He is into recording xbox videos and editing/rendering them for youtube, he is using a dual core 1.8ghz latop and is wanting some power to speed things up, so this build will be primarily for this task plus some general browsing and homework etc etc, it wont be a gaming system (yet, but i expect thats next).

The budget is around £450..for everything. I do expect to go over this but not by a huge amount.

I dont know much at all about rendering so this is where i get stuck, i have read up and from what i can tell most people are saying more cores are better, lots of ram but dont go mad on the graphics card as its mainly cpu/ram based. I understand more cores and ram but am stuck with a graphics card for the needs. This is so far what i have chosen based on budget.

Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P - £54

AMD FX-6300 Black Edition Hexa Core 3.5GHz AM3+ 8MB Cache 95W - £77

16GB Kingston RAM KHX16C10B1R/8 2 X 8GB 1600MHz CL10 DDR3 HyperX - £109

Western Digital 1TB HDD - £43

Liteon ihas optical drive - £13

Zalman CPU Cooler CNPS5X - £16

22inch monitor - £70

Aerocool gaming ATX case with 750W PSU - £55

Now heres the thing..the graphics card. I originally went for a very cheap GT210 as i didnt think he would need anything special, then i read that for rendering something more powerfull would be needed so i chose a
GeForce GTX 650TI 2GB Graphics Card Physx/3D Vision Dual Fan Cool'n'quiet - £70
He wont be gaming, mainly editing/rendering. So is the 650Ti to much?? would a more basic cheap card be ok?
The monitor, optical drives etc etc are not that important so i can swap about and change most of the other stuff if i need to, i just went for decent budget items to do the job. I dont want to get into SSD just yet as large capacity ones are just to pricey and i have never had any problems with western digital in the past. The case is very basic but does have that 750W PSU that comes with it plus front and rear fans, i could go with a better quality PSU and nicer case as i think maybe a case/psu bundle would have a dirty cheap psu.
I should add he is currently using win8, this build will have win7 64bit..because its a PC not a tablet or phone (yep i hate win8). The software he currently uses is After Effects and Sony Vegas Pro. Also i really do want to stick with an AMD build.

Thanks any and all who can give me some pointers and settle the GPU choice for me, or even point out if i have made a bad choice with the CPU and MB.

Oh and 1 more thing..whilst he is editing/rendering he will also be on skype, watching youtube, on facebook and probaly many other things to sup the power and slow everything down!

If you can add a monitor in this build it's decent , or work with it to build.

Thankyou for the fast answer!.
I will go for a nicer case and opt for a trusted PSU once i have figured out which graphics card to use and what budget i have left.

He is paying for it from his birthday money, he has £400 but i know we will have to add to it so i will say £530 at the absolute top. I dont want to drop to quad core and be under-powered but really cant cant afford to be looking at an 8 core build. I am happy with the FX 6300, its the graphics card thats got me, do i go cheap as he wont be gaming or will that just ruin the whole build thats based on rendering..

Awesome, thank you for your time in putting the list together.
There lays my problem i have to squeeze a monitor into the budget and after so many people saying the graphics card wont matter that greatly for rendering and me knowing so little on that side of things i did have to question it. The card you have chosen is way above what i had read would be required to make this decent enough for his needs, i asked the right person and if thats what you think i should be aiming at then i take your word for it.
For now i need sleep i have a long day at work but i shall go over your list more in depth tomorrow night and see what we can do. Its hard working with a budget like this, i dont want to waste money by getting 1 part of it wrong but then again a budget does have its limits, trimming one price to afford another...its just a headache!.
Thanks again, if i had not of asked the question i could of got this build very wrong.
