I don't have any room on my motherboard for a dedicated sound card. How can I improve the sound and mic quality for under $50 without buying new speakers, headphones, and mic?

All that you can really do is use an equalizer. I don't know how much you will be able to improve sound quality, though. Generally, the Realtek drivers will have an equalizer on it.

There isn't really much that can be done if you can't better hardware.

How about getting an amp?

Depends on if your headphones can benefit from one. What headphones/headset are you using? Generally, only the more expensive stuff will benefit from an amp.

I'm using a Logitech UE 6000 (50 Ohms). I opened up my computer to check if there was room for a sound card. There is a open PCIE x1 slot, but I don't know if it will fit.

What do you think

You should be able to fit a sound card in there just fine. I have my ASUS Xonar DGX in my PCIe x1 slot right above my graphics card. You might notice a small increase in sound quality, but an amp won't really help out those headphones too much since they have a built in amp.
