Pentium G3258 and R9 270 for 1440p Gaming?

Hi!

I am tossing around the idea of getting a 2560x1440p monitor, but I really don't want to spend a ton on upgrades for the computer.

I have a Pentium G3258 overclocked to 4 GHz and a Gigabyte R9 270. I play Minecraft and GRID 2 occasionally, but I really want to have smooth, high FPS with at least low-medium quality.

Is my build capable for light gaming at 2K, or does the CPU or graphics need an upgrade?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply!

I already have the G3258 and I have it overclocked to 4 GHz with the stock cooler and an ASUS H87 motherboard. It hits 84C max while stress testing. Playing GRID 2 and Minecraft, do you think there will be frequent stuttering in my games?

I really only want to spend $300 max, and all I really want is to have better picture quality and detail.

I have a CRT 1080p monitor right now, would my money be better spent on a larger, nicer LED 1080p monitor? Say, like an ASUS 27"?

Thanks again!

Okay, thank you! I have a Hyper TX3 laying around that won't fit in my Elite 130, so I'm changing cases and fitting that in.

Thanks for the advice on the display! Do you think i'll notice a big difference between my Viewsonic 22" (correction, not CRT, meant CFL mercury lamp) monitor and getting the ASUS 24"? Obviously, not in clarity, but in overall color and experience?

Does the motherboard really make a difference? I know the the H87I-Plus wasn't made to overclock, but it's only a dual core, and it's definitely a mild overclock. Once I get the TX3, I will probably push it to 4.3 or so.

Thank you!
