haswell-E vs 5th gen processors

Solution

this is the idea that i have.

I have had my i5 2500k for several years now and I could not be happier. i wa way overpowered when I was running a gtx 560 but now several years later I have a 1440p monitor and 2x 7950's and I am just meeting the limits of my CPU.

there is no such thing as future proof but going with an 8-core intel is as close to it as you can get.

What tasks will you be performing on your PC? Video rendering/editing, gaming, music, design software...? Haswell-E will be way overkill for gaming. Broadwell will likely have little performance increase over Haswell, but mainly have a lower TDP.

some games will and now that intel is on board with commercial 6-8 core CPU's will see much greater adoption of multi-core. also with consoles all being multi-core and also on the x86 platform (same as PC) we will see a new push for multicore especially for MMO and FPS online games

my i5 2500k at 4.8 is maxed the whole time while playing rome2 total war. so there are games that stress the CPU pretty intensely.

This is only going to increase as we all move onto 1440p 1600p or 2k monitors. these new monitors are dropping in price very quickly and if i have ever learned anything it is that tech will find a way to use whatever CPU/GPU power that is available.

In toms hardware aricle today about the new CPU's that have come out the video editing numbers show some impresive results

If you are still 6 months out from buying a CPU then you can wait and see what is next and also what other CPU's are coming out.

I would not rec that buy into this tech right now. there is still allot of refinment that needs to be done with ddr4 and motherboard bios and other such tech.

this tech is too new to buy now but it is the first real improvement in tech in the last 3 years and it is something that i am excited about. wtf ever i am. :)

this is absolutely true if you are building today but if your time frame is a couple of months out there will be more CPU's released by Intel at that point.

also on the save $300 note it is definitely a good savings for the performance but spread over 3 years it is not as significant and we are not going to break an 8-core in 2-3 years.

I really rec that you do wait a little while to see everything else that will be released
