What are the downsides of an unstable system?

I fail Prime 95 and any test I run to check the stability on my non overclocked system. All of my components work (I ran memtest, and that stuff). My voltages are correct. My temps are good. No one here had found an answer to my question of how my pc is not stable (I have asked 6 times lol).

I have given up on trying to figure out why (I have had this pc since January and I discovered it was unstable when I decided I wanted to overclock a few months later).

So what can happen to my system if it is "unstable."

And can there possibly be something wrong with my motherboard? should I ask gigabyte for a revision 4.0 ud3?

These are my specs: Gigabyte 990fxa ud3, 8350, Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz RAM, HX750w PSU, Nvidia 770, and then the not so important stuff.

Unstable means it will crash or not work properly as expected. You expect to print and the app closes for no reason. You try to view Youtube and suddenly you got lines and colors all over the screen. Unstable means it isn't workin.

Now I don't know your situation, or how everything works 'fine' but Prime 95 (at least your indicating). Have you had ANY other issues with it when you try anything moderate or taxing? Because if you can't prove the Mobo is bad Gigabyte will laugh at you and wont' discuss the matter.

If you have 'other issues' have you tried to breadboard? What happens in comparison when 'out of the case' like that?

I have no other issues but the prime 95 and intel burn test (only two I have tried).

Well I would then try other things, like maxing out a game, or firing up Maya, or other things that your intending to 'use' the computer to do. Does it fail or act 'unstable'. If not then I wouldn't be as concerned as just the burn in test 'failed' when it can be any number of reasons (including a bad video driver install at the time of the test) that may ONLY affect such a purposeful 'push it till it breaks' software, but everything else you throw at it works perfectly.

That the Intel Burn test failed usually is a CPU issue (bent pin?) and rarely a Mobo issue (have you updated BIOS to latest?), but again, I don't use these tests EXCEPT to deduce the ROOT CAUSE of a KNOWN PROBLEM, and your saying "I have no other issues". So I don't see it telling you that there IS a problem, it seems more like your LOOKING for a problem. Lets try (as I suggested) just using it and see IF there is a problem.

I have maxed out games before. I am just wanting to overclock, but I am afraid to until I have this issue fixed. I am just wondering what are the downsides to an unstable system because mine works just fine except for the tests.
