As far as i know there is only a laptop named "HP Compaq nc6120" with the number 6120.
You need to be precise with model name and type.

Go to

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-search.html?tab=1#/qryterm=HP%20Compaq%20nc6120&search_searchtype=s-002

(HP Compaq nc6120).
You can try both choices ("base model notebook PC" and "notebook PC"), after that you have to choose your operating system on the next screen.

I checked and for Windows XP there is no "Driver - Audio" listed. Therefore the driver must be included in the operating system for Windows XP and needs no extra install, the link above is obsolete.

I cannot give you an advice what to install without knowing your operating system.
If you have Windows XP then you should reinstall the audio driver, just try to delete the audio components in the device manager and Windows will try to reinstall them upon next boot (Windows XP).
But i can give you the exact hardware ID of the audio chip if you need it. This will allow to check if there is any driver for your operating system at all.

Uhmm I wouldn't waste my time here, as a quick look for the laptop http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetDocument.aspx?docname=c04290777 shows it was made back in 2006, 8 YEARS ago. Honestly HP aka Compaq doesnt' support the laptop (way out of warranty) and XP was stopped being supported (one of the reasons you will not find drivers and such for it like you won't find drivers for Windows 98).

PCs are to be replaced every 5 years (like a cell phone gets replaced every contract or two renewals) in order to 'keep up' with what we are asking them to do NOW as compared to 5 years ago, much less 8 years ago. Also the PRICE has dropped a huge amount, that you can grab (for general use, check email, post to Facebook, etc. ) a new laptop at Walmart for only $249 ! BIG difference to how much you 'paid for' that Compaq and common prices then.

Who cares.

Who cares, it's still the best OS.

WRONG. Check the link i gave above, it proves that you are wrong.

Maybe, maybe not, not sure.

NO. They are to be replaced
a) if they don't work anymore and can't be repaired or repair is not affordable
b) they are not useful anymore to anybody (and this anybody includes the whole world...)
c) if operation causes major disadvantages (e.g. power consumption, not the case here)

You are a slave of the consumer industry and a waste producer. I'm sorry for you.

Who cares. A driver costs nothing! The difference of $249 is WAY TOO BIG therefore!

First off, it makes a big difference if the OP is expecting support or to find solutions. HP/Compaq if called would inform him the computer is NOT in the support category and as such wouldn't be provided any solutions.

Further as noted in ALL the files provided on the link you cited, these have been 'abandoned' and not updated to ensure they properly are compatible with current OS or other element files. For example how would a 2006 driver understand the changes .NET 4.0 (released in 2010) does to critical underlying Windows Files to be compatible with hardware and software, this of course causes conflicts, errors and instability. Much less be 'compatible' with XP SP3 released in 2008??

As for your 'opinion' on best OS, that is NOT what the OP is asking for.

Let me clarify a bit better as you seemed to missed the point. As I noted last driver updates were in 2006 on the website, XP SP3 released in 2008 nevermind ALL the other updates to other drivers, software, and underlying Windows files (like I mentioned the CRITICAL .NET changes). These drivers were abandoned and NOT updated, nor when XP was stopped being supported did they publish a fresh set of 'drivers' to prolong the inevitable.

Had to laugh here, really that is your answer, come on, do you even know what 16Bit is either and you want to start a needless argument?

WOW! Just WOW! Okay, this is not the Left Wing rant board so take it easy. We aren't hear to 'share with the whole world' this laptop, this is ONE person posting so get your head out of your 'space' and focus on what we are talking about here.

Secondly to that, did you BOTHER to look at the link I provided and PAGE 2 the specs?

Intel® Pentium® M processors 730 to 770* or Intel Celeron® M processors 360J to 370*
Sleek industrial design starting at 6.06 lb/2.75 kg and 1.2-inch/30.3 mm thin at front
Mobile Intel 915GM Express Chipset
256-MB DDR SDRAM, upgradeable to 2048-MB maximum
Up to 100-GB 5400 rpm hard drive
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900
Optional Integrated 802.11a/b/g or 802.11b/g wireless LAN module

Okay so it is running B/G wireless, most WIFI points DROP (as in the OP will NOT get Wifi while everyone else does) this to ensure only current N and AC are unhindered by the legacy communications, which does a 'in turn' to wait to transmit OR receive by ONE device at a time, where as today we expect Mom's iPhone plus Brothers Laptop to BOTH be on the Wifi at the same time and not 'wait' on each other 'taking turns' to get to stuff (never mind watching YouTube/NetFlix/etc.). THAT right there is the expectations the consumers have of their devices changing the market products to meet the consumer demands, which old legacy computers can't "change" with some 'driver' or patch.

Nevermind running on a system with less then 2GB or RAM impacts the performance of XP (which actually performs best on 4GB) and on a low end CPU all means the poor OP is sitting here for hours wasted waiting on the computer to 'do things' that someones 'Free' smartphone just did in seconds, much less how fast a computer now performs in comparision.

Over and over we can discuss this, and your 'moral' sense of what all people shouldn't be 'enslaved to' has jilted your common sense. IF we followed your example, then the NUMEROUS people with Android (which didn't even exist when talking about the OPs PC) would still be on v2.0 and still CAN'T watch YOUTUBE videos on their smartphone much less be able to use SNAPCHAT, VINE, etc. as the OS and the hardware couldn't support it. Does that make any sense for them NOT to upgrade them? To put it for the OP here, the OP can't even use a USB 3.0 Ext drive on this computer because it wouldn't 'register' with this legacy hardware's BIOS, which is the NORMAL ext drive being sold today.

Oh and let's COMPLETELY forget that any hardware on ANY part of the computer is ONLY warrantied for 3 Years of normal use, which is defined as no more then 8 hours a day for 5 days in a given week (yes business hours). So if a part was 4 years old and suddenly FAILED, well the maker would in turn say "yeah we told you that will happen".

Wow seriously wow, circular argument a little there and bad form. First, your looking at the wrong end here, your trying to achieve a personal goal and not considering the bigger picture as I noted, lack of support, using things that your told 'yeah you need to get rid of it we got rid of making it!', and also the larger 'DIFFERENCE' in both OPs experience (calculate how many HOURS wasted trying to perform the same task in a given week between this legacy system and the $249 one and then multiply that time a common value of worth, say minimum wage, I think you will find the $249 would be 'cost effective') and able to 'keep going' in the future in comparison. Don't forget, the hardware was ONLY guaranteed (free replacement) for 3 Years from the date the OP bought it, the OP has been on borrowed time since, and SUDDENLY (seen it happen) just 'fail'. Like for example the HDD head slaps the platter, the resister for the mobo power supply finally stops resisting causing the board to no longer power on, etc.

To provide that there is some information at all in this post here some problem related data:

Found on my HP Compaq nc6120 (product s/n: CNU539xxxx)
(Note that different serial numbers might contain different mainboards and sound hardware, no warranty for correctness!).

Sound device: "SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E&SUBSYS_099C103C&REV_03\3&B1BFB68&0&F2
(according to XP SP3 device manager)

Driver provider: Analog Devices
Driver date: 13.10.2004
Driver version: 5.12.1.5250
Signature: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher

Though there is no audio driver available on the HP web site now i have downloaded one earlier (maybe it wasn't included in original XP / XP SP1 or XP SP2) it's name is:

sp30130.exe (8'353kB)

(ADI SoundMAX Audio driver for Win XP and 2000)
There are most likely newer drivers, check with Analog Devices.

May i repeat what the OP wrote and asked:
"how do i download sound drivers for hp cmpaq 6120". "hp compaq 6120 sound drivers".

We both understood that the question is most likely "WHERE do i download drivers for my Compaq ....".
We both provided links.
I checked the link and found that there is no sound driver for XP which is the OS which was most likely preinstalled on this machine. It is integrated in the OS in XP.
I showed him a way to fix this.
You did not.
While reading your post i found a lot of BIASED information not asked by the OP and not helping at all.
That is why i gave you my biased reply.
I am here to help, not to indoctrinate somebody or spread personal, political or company views. And im not here either to give trivial non-solutions like "throw your device away". But if somebody does i can show there is an alternative view.

Again, the question was:
"how do i download sound drivers for hp cmpaq 6120". "hp compaq 6120 sound drivers".

We both would have been able to fix the problem during the time used for these posts. But it seems you would not even have started.
The question was not "should i throw my laptop in the garbage?". Keep focused. Rest of post snipped because off topic.
