I am looking to upgrade my PC for WoD. I do not care to run the game on ultra, I just want to be able to run it on Good/High with 40+ FPS (60 ideally). Here is the info that I have on it.

HP Pavilion P6000 Series
Model: p6617c
Processor: AMD Athlon X2 255 Processor 3.10 GHz
RAM: 5.00 GB
System type: 64-bit OS Windows 7
NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT

I know that I will need to upgrade my power supply to I assume, 450+. I was wondering what else would need to be upgraded? How do can I find out if the motherboard will accept a new power supply would like to spend (if possible) 150-250$. I am hoping to only have to upgrade the Power Supply and the Graphics Card but I am not sure what else would be necessary.

Most likely not, you will notice maybe your highest fps point increase slightly, but as an example I put in one of my old video cards which I think was a gtx 480 in one of my old systems so my friend could use it to play wow on while they spent the week out at my place, and the fps would be fairly high, but since the processor that I used was a core 2 duo at 3.2 ghz we still saw a huge drop in frames in rough spots like cities etc... so like you would get maybe 45-60 in arena, then you would go to a city or do a raid and it would almost become unplayable. So the processor does matter quite a bit for wow. the only thing that I don't like about most of hp's pav series is that they use kind of an odd shaped power supply, and most other...

It depends on what you are planning on doing for the next expansion, for pvp you can use a weaker processor with a decent video card and get about 30-60 fps, but for raiding a weak processor will cause lag spikes during 25m to about 15fps and 10m to about 25

You would probably be looking at a whole new system, that processor is fairly weak so you can't really pair it up with any video card since you will still hit some points in the game where you would drop down to the point where it is almost unplayable. If you think about it the release date is in about 2 months, so you could build a decent system all new for wod.

The processor is only a 2 core, but you can overclock it quite a bit with that nice power supply and motherboard. You can also take off $50 if you just want to reuse your old hard drive. Overall it should work nice since wow's performance is based off how strong your single threaded performance is. The 750ti is also a really nice card that can play the game at high and ultra. But if you save up more money before then I would go with the r9 280 and the i5 refresh. I say the amd card because it is cheaper than the 760, and also performs better. everything else would stay the same

I appreciate all that info. My current rig gets me 30-60 on fair settings. But what I am hoping/wondering is if I can only upgrade my power supply (to support a new graphics card) and graphics card to achieve atleast 60 fps in WoW on medium settings, in all situations.

So the processor does matter quite a bit for wow. the only thing that I don't like about most of hp's pav series is that they use kind of an odd shaped power supply, and most other power supplies won't fit into place. So really that would leave you with the option of only using a video card that requires no extra power via pci-e power connector. So you would want to get the gtx 750 ti from. Just make sure that you don't get one with 2 fans. The only other problem that could occur is if your case has the motherboard fitted weird so you couldn't use a 2 slot card, but my guess is that you can. Hp uses foxconn boards for pretty much all of the pav series, so you should be able to if needed, be able to buy a new case and power supply and swap the motherboard to the new one. but with just the video card you are looking at $130 after rebate. here is a link to the card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487025&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= use the promo code TB825TEN to get a discount on the card.

But other then that you are looking at a whole new computer if you plan on playing wow and staying above that 40-60 fps. Like I can lower everything down on my 4930k with 3 gtx 780ti's in sli, and I still will drop to 45 fps in really crazy raid moments or when the city has to many people

I'm guessing your socket is either am2+, so there isn't really any promising upgrade for the socket. I would just get something like the motherboard and processor that I linked, or even the i3 would be nice and cheap just for playing wow
