Hey, I'm really new into this whole overclocking thing, and I thought you guys might help me.

I suffer from low performance on games that use only one or two cores, so i tried overclocking my CPU with AMD overdrive, since my MOBO doesn't support overclocks. I set the clock to 4.5GHz but forgot to set the voltage up and i ended up frying my PSU and had to change it.. :/

I got a new one and I'm still thinking about overclocking with AMD Overdrive, however I'm not confident with doing this by my self.

If anyone could help me and explain how to do this properly I would be very grateful. Here are my specs:

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz

PSU: 750W V-Force with 135mm fan

MOBO: ECS A960M-M4

Case: Cooler Master HAF 912

Liquid Colling with a Corsair H80i

let's examine your case..

1.PSU..
frying your psu..?
Usually it's rarely happens, except very-very-very bad quality psu..or generic donald duck PSU or something..
But it's seventeam..
well, yeah..even this brand not the first tier (or even second tier), this one should be can handle that load..
maybe a bad batch..

2. Motherboard...
your board definitely not designed for overclocking..it's using old 760 chipset, and designed just for only 125w processor..not more..
while overclocking, your processor TDP skyrocketing to 200+ watt.
beside that, well, crappy 3+1 vrm. you've put your board in heavy load and it will fry your board..
So, please be happy with standard clock..
Do with some better board if you want to overclock your processor..

3.Overdrive..
Software based overclocking is never be a recommendation..this one just usefull in order to reach the maximum temporary speed, and then it should make it permanent through bios..

so, conclusion is..
if you wanna overclock your puppy, then get a better motherboard..

And if you do get a new motherboard then you overclock in the BIOS ..not with overdrive..

Thanks for the replies. My old PSU was a Corsair GS700 and I know that my MOBO is crap in terms of OC, any suggestion for a MOBO that supports OC and AMD?

whew..gs700 is decent..better than your current psu..

okay, let's talk about motherboard..

it's really depend on your budget..
for best am3+ motherboard, asus crosshair V is the best choice. Plenty feature to squeeze all of your processor performance. Or, for lower price, you can get asus sabertooth r.2. almost as good crosshair, with a few crippled feature..
for mid class, Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 is a decent option..nice overclockability..or M5A99X Pro if you have a plan to go with multicard configuration..
for budget class, Asus M5A97 R2.0 is a good choice..
