power supply, POWER SUPPLY!

FFS the mobo is not the problem, power is! The same PCI-E socket is out for years now and people still keep asking whether it will fit.

There was a video of someone actually putting a GTX TITAN in an Alienware X51 lol.

Gotta take out one of the fans if I remember correctly.

You don't know what a power supply is?

i know what power supply is but alienware is having 240 watt power supply and gtx 780 needs 600 w minimum power supply.
I dont know how to supply power because smp cannot be fitted into alienware x51.

Then I guess you're screwed. You shouldn't have bough pre-built pc. Its doable but it will be a lot more expensive than a solution for a normal built pc would be.

I think nomac55 is right - the TDP (power draw) of the new 970 is 145W, which is only 5W more than the GTX 660. Dell themselves recommend an upgrade to the 660Ti as a maximum, which has a TDP of 150W, so the new 970 is actually 5W less than the most powerful card Dell have traditionally recommended.

The only considerations as far as I can tell are physical ones - the 970 reference design 10.5" in length, so you'd need to ensure you get a 9.5" version (height is the same as the 660) and also consider where the power connectors are, as space is tight inside the X51 case and there might be some bending/stretching of power cables/connectors required.

In any event, I'm seriously considering the 970 as the first viable and worthwhile upgrade to the 660 in my X51. =)
