What MoBo do you have? You should upgrade CPU first to FX 83xx series. FX 41xx will really bottleneck any good GPU and is not a good quad core either. Anything like GTX 770 or R9 280 or higher will be held back. If you're on budget then get R9 270 or X version which'll run fine with 4100 :)

Ok that board can handle both FX 8 and a good GPU since its PCIe2.0. So I'd recommend the 270X, a great value/money and would compliment a FX 6 or 8 when you get it. Also, any GPU which runs on PCIe 2.0/3.0 will be compatible, which makes the list pretty large to each GTX 700 and 600 series GPU, along with R9 :)

Ok. You can upgrade you gpu depending on your power supply as we need to know what it is. If you have good budget a 600-650W good psu would be enough for an r9 270x to an r9 290. But you have to upgrade the cpu not to bottleneck your gpu. The fx 8320 is a good one to handle whatever you throw at it :)

Just found that my PSU is a decent 550 w unit, and since my budget is tight right now I was thinking of getting either a GTX 750 ti or a Radeon r7 265. Is the r9 270x worth that extra money??

Its better for ultra gaming on high resolutions, but neither 750 Ti nor 265 are weak cards. I'd go with 270X for raw performance and 750 Ti for value/money.

Yeah I only have a resolution of 1440x900 so not that big... I might go for the 270X though, thanks :)
