AMD R9 280 no signal to monitor

So I got my new GPU today.
The GPU I got was the MSI Radeon R9 280 Gaming and I switched it with my GTX 550ti.
When I tried to boot my computer with the R9 280 I got no signal. I tried everything to get it going but nothing helped. Then I tried switching back to my old GPU (the 550ti) again and then there was no signal and the computer gave me 2 beeps just after boot. My MB doesn't have any video-outputs so I can't see anything on my display. I didn't know I had to install the driver for my new GPU before installing it, so that might have caused the problem. But I don't understand why I can't use the old gpu again.
My MB is an intel DB67DE mATX with pci x16 2.0 but that shouldn't be a problem with the pci x16 3.0 that the R9 280 is using as far as I know, .
Any suggestions is appreciated
EDIT: I got my old GPU to work. I've removed all Nvidia drivers but the AMD card still isn't working. I don't get any beeps when the R9 280 is installed, so the MB knows that it's there but it doesn't give me a signal to my monitor.

Depending on the age of the board the problem COULD be this, but I can't confirm since I don't have the board's specs. The 550ti is a 2.0 card, which WILL run in a 1.1 slot. The 280 is a 3.0 card which WILL NOT run in a 1.1 or 1.0 PCIe slot. If you're board is old enough to have a 1.0 or 1.1 slot then that card will not run in it.

I would not install the most recent BIOS version if you plan to overclock at all as there is an issue with the BIOS as noted here from the update page. It doesn't look like they ever corrected this either. I wouldn't update past version 0072 unless you need to for cpu support or if you know for sure you'll never be overclocking the processor or gpu at all.:

Known issue: Intel has identified an issue with this BIOS version, where the ability to overclock the system is not working after the BIOS update. Intel regrets any inconvenience caused by this issue and is working to provide corrected BIOS version as soon as possible.

Warning:
BIOS version 0077 includes support for 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors. Due to structural changes in this BIOS version, once a board has been converted to this version or later, it will no longer be possible to downgrade the BIOS to version 0072 or earlier. Attempting a BIOS downgrade to a previous version may fail – the board BIOS will remain at its current version.

damn, I read that to late. Anyway this is just a temporary solution until the gtx 900 series, and i won''t be home for the next year or so.
BUT it worked updating the BIOS. Should've read your comment before :/ Guess I could downgrade to the 0072 if I wanted to??? Thx for your assistance anyway Darkbreeze

Didn't read that properly. Yea the card is being recognized properly now and is working correctly. But updating the BIOS turned out to be quite inconvenient since I couldn't use the windows installer and I had to install every update with an USB-key from the version I had up to the newest, which was about 8 I think. But it was worth it since the GPU is working now :)

Actually, in the future, you don't need to do that. The newest version of any BIOS image contains ALL previous versions. You only need to update the BIOS file ONE time. Unless of course a newer update becomes available later in which case you might have another image to flash but you don't need to do 10 or even 2 images to get to the most recent one. They are not cumulative, they are absolute. All information in older versions will be part of the newest version.

Yea that's what I thought I had to do, but that didn't work. I have absolutely no clue why I couldn't just install the newest version, but it was not possible... Trust me I tried everything to get this to work and what I finally did after several attempts was in desperation and it worked :)

Dont know if you all are still on this page? But I got the MSI Radeon R9 280 Gaming GPU as well and I have no display. I built an entire new computer from all the pieces I bought. I get no display from the GPU though. My computer is running off the integrated graphics. Any help in how to do this would be greatly appreciated. I got the Asus Maximus VII hero z97.

I got the Sapphire Dual-X R9 280 (installed on a gigabyte GA-78lmt 3.0 mobo) and I have the same problem, no signal to monitor. I just built my first pc aswell so I'm gonna try SorenHansen's method and update the BIOS and hopefully everything works out. I'm also gonna try using a DVI-D cable from my monitor to the external port of the video card instead of the rear I/O panel of pc (currently using VGA and no signal). Apparently that worked for some people.
