Hi all,

This is my first post on TH, apologies if this is similar to previous threads but I'd like some feedback on my planned PC spec. I'm only really going to use it for gaming, sim-racing in particular with Assetto Corsa specifically.

I'm looking to upgrade from a Core 2 Quad 2.5Ghz / Radeon HD4800 1GB / 2GB RAM which just barely runs AC with one car on the track to something along the following lines:

CPU: Intel I5-4690K (£168)
GFX: Radeon R9-280X 3GB (£200)
RAM: Corsair 2x 4GB 1600MHZ (£64)
MB: Gigabyte GA-Z97P-D3 (£62)
HDD: 1TB 7200RPM SATA (£50)
PSU: CoolerMaster B-Series 700W (£60)

Total Cost: £604

I'm playing on a single screen @ 1440x900 currently but will look to get a Oculus Rift when the consumer version is out.

I'd like some general feedback/thoughts on the spec but specifically:
1.) Have I got the balance of CPU/GFX right for gaming or is there a better combo for the price?
2.) Am I missing out on anything by going for a fairly cheap MB?
3.) Does the PSU look sufficient and is CoolerMaster a decent brand?
4.) How will I be fixed for performance with the Rift... I gather the consumer version will mean you need achieve a consistent 90fps?
5.) Anything in my planned spec likely to be a bottleneck?

I'm not particularly looking to overclock (the last time I oc'd was with a Pentium II...) but will consider it in the future if required for the Rift etc.

Thanks in advance.

Duncan

Very nice build. No bottleneck risk. Very much like my own build. You may get harassed for having a cheap motherboard but personally, my £70 mobo has been great since the day I got it. You only need two RAM slots so no need to spend more for extra features.
