i dont know much about cpus, but ive watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUlS5Q7tEJI
and some other pentium vs core comparision and saw that the pentium is just as good for gaming.
so is getting a pentium better for gaming on a low budget? and why is it so cheap but compares with the i7 in terms of gaming? im guessing its worse at multi tasking.
thanks for the anwsers.

There are indeed a few differences.
1, The Pentium has less cores than some Core CPUs,
2, The Pentium lacks Hyper-Threading
3, The Pentium is indeed cheaper.

Pentium vs i7.

Neither. An i5 is better than both.

Few games use many cores, so a pent will keep you going, but expect to encounter problems when games get better multi-threading.
You could also look at AMD, as their processors are good for budget pcs.

but dont AMD parts degrade faster and take more power than intel cpus? i have an AMD GPU by the way.
so if i open nothing other than the game i want to play (no chrome or skype or other background programs), lets say battlefield 3, will i encounter any problem? because according to that video the cpu did as good as the i7.

If you're dead set on an Intel chip. I'd recommend any of the Core i5's however. If you're not an over clocker. Which I'm going to assume you're not. Stay clear of the ones with K at the end of their name. And pick a H, not Z series motherboard.
Both come at a price jack. And are more aimed towards those who want to push their hardware. Than those who just want to game. Or want a better bang to buck ratio.

I'm not asking for a cpu, i'm just asking if a pentium, which costs about as half or third of a core i5, can perform just as if not better than an i7 in terms of gaming.

Unless you're looking to play really old games. Ie. Things made for early windows XP. Or even 98 SE. I can't really see the point in getting a pentium chip. Especially a super cheap model. As a lot of games do actually benefit from having a faster processor.

It's more a case of finding out what the average cpu speed is needed for the games you want. And if you can afford it. Pick the model that's a bit faster than the average recommended speed.
That way you get a buffer for anything that might come out, that needs a bit more speed.

An i7 is more of a work horse chip for home users. An i5 is the average man's chip and is fine for gaming. Even some i3's are pretty decent. The Pentiums... For the most part. Are the bottom of the barrel silicon. Good for little more than a net surfer. Movies player.

Those side-by-side Youtube comparisons are oversimplified and misleading. In that test, yes, the Pentium provides the same performance as an i7 because Battlefield 4's single player campaign is absurdly, unusually GPU-limited. I suspect that's why they chose that game. The Pentium G3258 isn't even in the same ballpark as an i5 or i7 in situations where CPU performance actually matter to the framerate of the game. That's just not one of those times.

That being said, for its price (and if overclocked), the G3258 is the best there is. Of course its slower than a $300 i7.
