Is upgrading from Z97 to X99 worth it for a new build?

I am building a PC and the New X99 chip-set, Haswell-E and DDR4 memory came out recently, but current gen Z97 components still look fine.

Should I fork out an extra $500 to step up to X99 parts (5820K, X99 motherboard and DDR4 memory) and have easy upgrades for the lifespan of DDR4. Or will current high end parts be considered an acceptable standard for long enough that I don't have to bother.

P.S: I do mostly gaming and a bit of video editing/CAD

Any advice or knowledge from past experience will be appreciated.

No a Z97 MoBo, from which you can upgrade to 5th gen down the road (if you wish to), a Devil's canyon and DDR3 memory (8GB or more) will do fine for atleast another 4-5 years of gaming.

X99 and Haswell E (hexa core) is primarly for workstation builds with lots of rendering/ 3D modelling/ VFX/ editing needs and that's not your purpose. Heavy rendering needs can be looked after by i7. Haswell E will not really be gaming optimal due to high costs, and I'd prefer 4th gen or 5th gen i7's over it :)

Video editing and cad will benefit more from the Haswell E than gaming. With the same GPU gaming performance difference is negligible, but saving on board and CPU may buy a better GPU which would make the 1150 platform better at gaming. So really is your choice.

Thanks for the Advice. Having only been working on computers since 3rd gen processors i didn't really know if all these new releases would be groundbreaking or not but since I will be primarily gaming on this machine It sounds like sticking with z97 is the best option for now.

Once again thanks for clearing that up.

P.S sorry for not picking this as the best solution, I am new to this site and clicked 'pick as solution' for a different response, but your answer did help me the most.
