Hey,

So I've install a new Samsung Evo 840 1TB, used the software to clone my HDD to the SSD. I have gone to my BIOS and made the SSD the boot drive with windows(System Drive).

My question is, is it safe to now completely erase the HDD and then move over some files and folders to it to free up some space on the SSD??

Cheers!

Does it actually work from the SSD? Disconnect the HDD and see how it runs. If all is well, then sure...wipe the HDD and move on.

Lol, how did I not think to try that and know for sure!

Wasn't sure if the folders etc were somehow linked, it is an exact clone atm between the HDD and SSD.

Cheers, I'll try later and see.

This may be too tardy for one more cautionary step... like USAFRet said, "Power down, unplug HDD and reboot from the SSD."

I also run a Windows Update. Even if it's a Nothing To Update, this is a fairly serious Registry Reading and Matching to a central Microsoft server, and if there are going to be software failures, then this is one more test for that. I often keep the old Boot HDD screwed into the case, but uncabled, for a few more sessions or days, then re-attach, wipe out volumes and do a quick reformat.
