1x Hitachi 1TB 7200rpm SATA II HDD
1x Toshiba 500GB 7200rpm SATA III HDD

Well they are enabled both rear and front ports and even if I reinstallesd the drivers that I just downloaded from Etron's site the wizzard says it was succesfully installed but when I plug my external hard drive the motherboard is not reading it. A message from the bottom right corner pops up saying the device was not installed succesfully. Also I tested the hard drive on a friend's usb3 ports and was working just to make sure there are not any problems with the drive.

That makes it sound like an issue with Windows's drivers. Try installing your external HDD's drivers manually before you plug it in.

I searched for drivers in Seagate but didn't find anything their instruction was this:
Windows 7
This drive may function properly in Windows 7, but it has not been tested, so it is not supported.

Yes both computers run windows 7 home premium 64bit. I dont have any other usb3 drive but usb2 flash drives usually work. For now I have plugged the mouse and the keyboard on usb3 ports and they work only if the computer starts. If I plug them while the pc is running it won't read them.

The whole plugging-things-in-before-booting-and-they'll-work thing is a known issue with the Etron USB controller. I have the same issue with some devices. Not sure about a fix.

As for the external HDD, it sounds like Windows is just having trouble finding the correct drivers for it. Could you post the external HDD's brand, exact model and size? Then I can try and find some working drivers for you.

I'm finding a lot of conflicting or outdated information.
There do not seem to be dedicated drivers for this drive.

First, if you haven't done so yet, try this: http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/201235en
If that doesn't work, try it again but at step 7 point it to the Windows\winsxs folder instead.

If that doesn't solve the problem:
Does the drive work correctly if you plug it into a USB 2.0 port?
Does the drive have a dedicated power cable, or is there only a USB cable?
Does the drive show up in Disk Management (search for disk management in start, click it and let it load)?

As a Hail Mary, you can try this:
Open an elevated command prompt (search for cmd in start, right click, Run As Administrator) and type: SFC /Scannow
Then press enter. This will repair a whole bunch of system files if they're missing/damaged and it may ask you for your Windows install disk, so keep that handy. When it's done immediately run Windows Update, search for and install all updates, reboot, then try plugging in the external HDD.

Ok I tried what you suggested. First I followed the steps on Seagates site but nothing changed. As for the Windows\winsxs folder it does not contain driverstor folder (don't know if there should be). If I plug the disk on usb2.0 ports it works fine. The drive has not a dedicated cable just a usb3 to usb3 micro and the drive does not show up in Disk Management. I also ran cmd as administrator with the command you said but windows said the was no errors or missing files detected. I also uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them again (Etron EJ168 v1.0.0.118).

It might be under Disk Drives or USB Devices or USB Controllers.

Are there any driver conflicts shown in Device Manager?
You can find out by selecting Show Hidden Devices in one of the top menus in Device Manager, expanding all the categories and looking for exclamation points displayed by specific devices. Other symbols might be relevant too.

I looked for what you said but there is not a group of Other Devices and even if I enabled show hidden devices no conflicts was shown (I checked every category one by one expanding them from the arrow). I really don't know what is going on.

Do you think there is just an incompatibility between the drivers of the Etron chip and the specific hard drive? USB2.0 flash drives work on USB3.0 ports but unfortunatelly I don't have any other USB3.0 device to check that for sure.

It sure looks like an incompatibility like you describe, but I'm far from an expert on drivers. My knowledge kind of ends here.

I'm afraid I really can't help you any further, I simply don't know what the problem is and if it is a compatibility or driver issue I wouldn't know how to fix it beyond what I've said already.

You could try starting a thread in the Windows section here on Tom's, someone with more driver knowledge may be able to help.
Otherwise, if you're running Windows 7 you could try posting in the Drivers section of sevenforums.com. Lots of knowledgable people there.

I'm sorry, I wish I could be of more help.
