Hey all!

it's been awhile since i put together my current rig... and now i wanna get me a new CPU, mainly because this one is, well, getting REALLY slow....

I mainly use my CPU's power for Graphic editing with PHOTOSHOP CS6, Photomatix, and such, and recently it has become really slow, especially when processing multiple RAW files and applying multiple effects in PS. i sometimes use it for light gaming but nothing extreme. it's really important for me to get a new rig that would last... as i bought my current rig just before the new DDR3 RAMs kicked in so i wasn't able to upgrade any RAM.....

i currently have this:

Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 920 Processor, AMD64 Family 16 Model 4 Stepping 2
RAM: Kingston HyperX 4095 Mb
Graphics Card: Radeon HD 6850
Motherboard: ASUS M4A78-E
PSU: OCZ 600W (i got this one for only 2 years, not 5)
Case: AeroCool S9 ATX

i'm probably gonna keep the case, the GPU, and the PSU, i dont see a good reason why not to... unless anyone thinks differently...

i should add that in that price i'll be happy to include a new 22-24" HD monitor
budget-wise- hard to say, because i live in ISRAEL so i guess prices are a bit different, but in any case i'm looking to spend about 900-1000$

what are your suggestions???

Now you are about to do the same again. :) DDR4 ram became available yesterday in the High-end Haswell-E series.

Unfortunately, the cheapest Haswell-E (which, incidentally would blow your mind and last quite a while) comes in at about $1,900.

You could wait a while, DDR4 will drop down into Broadwell announcements later this year for Intel CPUs.

However, if you *must* build now, here is something. I did not include your monitor. Photographers and photoshop "professionals" usually are quite choosy about their monitors for color values and so forth - it requires a different thread and probably a slightly better budget.

You can cut down in some areas on my configuration - drop 8GB of RAM, get a smaller (or no) SSD, I wasn't sure if...

Also, we may need to look at yor PSU. WHile nominally it's adequate, as is your GPU, both may not be entire;y suitable.

Not by much, If you can run the SSD in AHCI mode as opposed to IDE mode that might boost your performance and if you get a nice one (the Samsung EVO 840 250 GB is on sale at Newegg and Amazon) you can re-use it when you build your mew computer.
