This morning I turned on my PC and it appeared with the message 'An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system'.

I checked the BIOS and on the MSI board explorer it could only detect my DVD Drive (D Drive) and HDD (E Drive) My SSD is the C Drive with Windows 8.1 on. I swapped sata cables, ports and PSU power cables (if the SSD had no power) but still all ports and sata cables are working.

I began to think ok its time for a new SSD even though i have had it for around 6 months. However it comes up with the new windows 8 install screen when i put the win 8 disl in the cd drive, when:

CD Drive & SSD in (YES)
CD Drive (YES)
CD Drive & HDD (NO)
HDD (NO)
SSD (NO)

When i go to install on CD Drive & SSD, and i chose a drive to put it on there is nothing.

Is it the case of me getting a new SSD? That will be okay, all of my important files are stored on the HDD, so if i install win 8 on a new ssd will my hdd keep all its data?

Many thanks, help is needed quickly!

System:
MSI Z87-G43 Mobo
i5-4670k @4.2 GHz
8GB Kingston RAM
MSI AMD R9 290x
Corsair 750W PSU
Kingston 120GB SSD now (With Win 8.1)
1TB HDD

It probably was the SSD, I went and bought a new Crucial 256GB SSD, installed Windows 8.1 in it and everything works fine. All my data on the HDD is succesfully on the sort-of-new OS. Guess I will try to get some sort of refund as I believe I am still in warranty.
