Hi,

I am having trouble with my internet. In the house we have 2 desktops and a laptop all conected by ethernet cables connected to solwise homeplugs such as this one - www.solwise.co.uk/net-powerline-plv-200av-piggy.htm There is also one of these connected to the router (a talk talk fibre one) so (simply put) the internet is transfered through the wires around the house.

the issue i am having is that my speeds (on one of the desktops) are a fraction of that of the other 2 pc's - both maintaining at least 40mbps at peak times and around 60 mbps at non peak times. My speeds are fine at non peak times ~ 50mbps but at peak times I get less than 10mbps on a good day - certainly no more than 15.

I should say at this point that my pc is slightly further away from the router ( a room away - the laptop and other desktop are in 1 room) and backs onto our neighbours house (semi detached). could this be causing interference? plus I have scanned my pc for viruses/malware etc with bitdefender plus one from the internet.

I noticed that it was especially slow when I kept crashing out of civ v games online, obviously the other players were less than happy (we tend to play at just after peak times - 7pm-10pm)

I have tried switching plugss,
connecting directly to the router (all fine)
reinstalling drivers
ccleaning (which i do regualrly)
using alternative browsers - opera chrome safari etc
etc etc

my ethernet port is the realtek one on my motherboard (h87m-hd3) and we are all running windows 8.1

I am wondering if there was a solution for this? or an explanation

thanks

wow, really? I thought that it would be less but I didn't think it would be "that" bad!

so why would it be so much worse during peak times (compared to the other two computers) as the difference is not nearly as big when not in peak times

we finally solved the problem the above wasn't the issue. It turns out that the electrical wires go to a extension lead before my home plug. this lead was causing lots of interference with the internet signal as turning this off got the stable speeds of the other two computers. I will now move my pc upstairs as this is more stable.
