I'm looking to upgrade my system, but it has been about 5 years since I built mine and I am a bit out of touch on all the new mobos out now. I am looking for some advice on what type of motherboard chipset I should use for my new system. I am an avid gamer and I also do some video editing. I am on somewhat of a budget build as well. I think I am going to base my build on this CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116991

This is what my current build is:
Case: APEVIA X-JUPITER-JR G-Type X-JPJGT-BK Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower ||
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ||
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale Dual-Core 3.0GHz ||
CPU fan: ARCTIC Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2, CPU Cooler - 92mm PWM Fan ||
GPU: HIS Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 ||
PSU: Antec TruePower Trio 650w ||
SSD: Corsair Force Series GT CSSD-F120GBGT-BK 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive ||
HDD: l WD Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive ||
RAM: 4GB DDR2

I am on the fence about ATX vs micro ATX. I want the flexibility to upgrade, but would like a mobo for a decent price. I am no fanboy either. I have been really happy with my GIGABYTE board but I am not opposed to trying a different manufacturer either. I will be keeping my GPU for now since it still performs pretty well. My current CPU situation is definitely starting to show its age! So I feel it's time for an upgraaade! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks! I am trying to stay around the $200 range for cpu's and somewhere between $100 - $200 for a mobo. I will more than likely stick with Intel just because it's what I've always used and they've never done me wrong. My E8400 has been amazing to me all these years.

I would get the Core i5-4690K and get the Asus Z97-A. You might also want to get a new aftermarket CPU cooler. If you can, you could also ugrade your GPU. But, DDR2 RAM won't work with the Z97-A, though.

Yeah I the things I know I will definitely have to get are CPU, mobo, RAM, and CPU fan. I may upgrade to a modular PSU and a newer case as well. The GPU upgrade I am going to do at a later point, too. Thanks for the input. The Asus z97-A is one that I was looking at. There are just so many Z97 types, it's hard to decide. The differences seem so minor. haha

Asus: Best quality mobos
ASRock: meh, not bad
Gigabyte: Hit-and-miss, some people love them, some hate them
MSI: Generally low-quality boards except for their expensive ones.
EVGA: Good in general.

You could upgrade your GPU. SLI and Crossfire are possible.

Wow, that is a really awesome break down. Not a bad price either. Thanks for help, much appreciated! I was thinking about SLI in the future and switching to an nvidia gpu. Nothing against AMD, just want to try something different. But I will probably wait to do that when I decide to upgrade my case. Thanks again! It's helpful to have some awesome input from other minds.

No problem:)
